Custom Handspinning and Knitting
With YOUR Llama or Alpaca
Stone Fox Fibre Works provides a flexible service for spinning and knitting your lama
fiber. I can turn
your raw wool into a sweater, vest, scarf, poncho, throw, whatever you desire, or just
spin it for you to use. I work closely with my clients to produce exactly what they want,
providing samples and advice as needed before proceeding with the work. Your complete
satisfaction is guaranteed.
Try to clean your lama before harvesting the wool. It's much easier (and cheaper) than
doing laborious hand picking after brushing or shearing. Picking and dehairing is charged
at $10/hour as required for job. Carding is $8/pound for small quantities processed here.
Larger quantities are sent to an excellent local mill and costs a bit less. Spinning is
$3.25/ounce based on the finished weight of the clean, ready to use yarn of my standard weight. Exceptionally fine yarn costs more per ounce, bulky yarns a bit less. Yarn can be
supplied in skeins or center-pull balls. Softly spun yarns with an excellent feel are my
specialty.
Basic sweaters cost $150 to knit, complex designs average $175. Designs are all custom
made to your specifications. Other prices will be quoted upon request. If more wool than
necessary is supplied for a knitted project, the excess can be returned to you unspun for
inclusion with your next batch. It is important to start with a sufficient quantity as
color and quality can vary over the body and from one year to the next. I can never start
with too much!
Time to completion depends upon my backlog. Jobs are processed in the order received,
but every consideration will be made when a deadline is important.
